About

Dr. Narayana Subramaniam is a national and international award-winning head and neck oncology and reconstructive surgeon in Bengaluru. His expertise lies in ablative surgery of the oral cavity, oropharynx, salivary glands, thyroid, larynx, pharynx, sinonasal cavity and anterior skull base, with significant experience in a salvage (post-radiotherapy) and re-operative setting. He also performs regional and microvascular (free) flap reconstruction, with a special interest in facial nerve reanimation, prefabricated dental rehabilitation (jaw-in-a-day) and secondary reconstruction (delayed reconstruction of post-cancer defects). 

 

After completing his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru, he received a diplomate from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He received his MCh in Head and Neck Oncology from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, one of the foremost centres of excellence for training in ablative and reconstructive head and neck surgery. He has also gained additional certification in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) from the University of Pennsylvania and robotic surgery from Delhi. He then went on to do an advanced fellowship from the prestigious Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute in Australia, where he trained further in microvascular surgery, facial reanimation and implant-driven bony reconstruction of the maxilla and mandible. 

He has a passion for affordable healthcare delivery and is involved in several projects that focus on low-cost cancer screening and detection. He serves as the All-India Managers Association (AIMA) Young Leaders Council (https://ylc.aima.in) Bengaluru Chapter Chair, where he focuses on developing strategic frameworks to improve healthcare partnerships in the region, and is the Oncology Mentor for GE India’s Edison Accelerator program (https://startups.gehc.co), one of India’s largest incubator programs for startups in healthcare and technology.

 

In his new role at Sparsh Hospitals, Bengaluru he is Senior Consultant and Director of Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, as well as Director of Clinical Innovation. He leads a world-class team comprising otolaryngology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, surgical oncology, reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial prosthodontics and speech and swallowing rehabilitation, which caters to the whole range of head and neck disorders. His other role will focus on rapid clinical application of emerging technologies, improving clinical outcomes and reducing cost through digital intervention and innovation, as well as improving patient experience.
